Intelligentsia Flecha Roja Costa Rica

IThis is the first coffee from Intelligentsia, the Chicago-based roaster, that I’ve had the good fortune to try. It came to me courtesy of Peter and Kendra who picked it up for me while they were there recently. Up until now, I’ve only read about Intelligentsia, and I was always intrigued by the information they gave you about their coffees. Take this coffee for instance, the Flecha Roja from Costa Rica.

This info is from Intelligentsia’s webpage about the coffee:

  • Location: Terrazu
  • Varietal: Caturra and Catuai
  • Altitude: 1400-1800m
  • Harvest: November-February
  • Direct Trade Coffee

I made this coffee in a french press, still (despite looking closely at both the Technivorm and Chemex coffee makers) my favorite brewing method.

The bottom line: I really like this coffee. It’s very mellow, with a definite acidity that’s not overwhelming. There’s a mild flavor of blueberries, a hint of raspberries, and even a hint of gaminess. It feels a bit velvety in the mouth. Lingering mild acidity and fruits.

This makes me excited to try more Intelligentsia  coffees at some point. I’ve been eyeing their Los Inmortales, their El Salvadoran blend. But really, choosing a coffee from their site will be hard, they all look so good.
